Sony’s Thoughts: To Know Christ More

I don’t know how many will remember a song that was popular in churches years ago which said, “The greatest thing in all my life is knowing You” but, as I was praying this morning, that song came to mind. I haven’t sung it in ages and don’t remember all the verses except I know “loving You” was one of them. I hope I never get to the place where I think I know all there is to know about my Savior for it’s in coming to know Him that I come to love Him and I begin to be more like Him, which is my ultimate goal.

I love Steve Fry’s song which said:

Oh, I want to know You more
Deep within my heart I want to know You
Oh, I want to know You
I would give my final breath
To know You in Your death and resurrection
Oh, I want to know You more

Right now, I can only imagine how the Apostle Paul felt when he stated, “It is no longer I that lives but Christ that lives in me” but I long for that day. What a blessing that would be to everyone around me but I know I can’t attain that goal if I don’t take the time to sit at Christ’s feet and learn of Him.

I live a hectic life and honestly I have no idea how I’m going to accomplish the myriad of things I have to do this week. However, no matter how pressed I am to get a lot done in a little bit of time, I’ve learned that I accomplish nothing if I don’t seek God first. If I don’t truly take time for Him, the pressures of life mount up and I become easily frazzled. It’s also nice to know that He desires me to sit at His feet. He appreciates the time with me as much as I need that time with Him. And so, the mountain of work can wait; I’m doing the work for Him anyway; and He’ll give me the grace. First, just give me a little more time to hear His voice, to know how He desires me to approach each day. Then I will feel His embrace and I’ll be ready to face the world one task at a time. Thank You, Father, for that reminder. I truly do want to know You and love You more!

  1. Great post, Sony. I really needed that reminder this week. Thank you!

    • Thank you, Daniel, and thank you for the blessing of being able to contribute to your blog.

  2. Amen, Sony! I really appreciate your honest writings and can relate to your devotions. Thank you for taking the time to share from your heart. Please keep sharing! 🙂

Your post reminded me of Philippians 3:8-10: “Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Thanks for the reminder to place Jesus first above all other priorities.

    Blessings on your day!

    • Thank you for that encouragement, Taylor. And thank you for sharing those Scriptures. They summarize it perfectly.

  3. Sony, thank you for the devotion. I am up with my two month old granddaughter who is with us as she has RSV and cannot attend daycare. Knowing Christ must be every Christian’s objective, although I fear that we sometimes omit the part about the “fellowship of His sufferings”.

IMO, that part is as essential to our growth, as the physical movements of my precious Emilynn is to her growth and stength.
