Sony’s Thoughts: Obedience

Obedience: In reality, not difficult yet it still seems to be one of life’s greatest challenges. Surrender should be simple. You simply do what you’re told without thinking twice about it. Yet God has given each of us a mind which wants to analyze, re-think or simply rebel. Discernment is a great thing and our job is not to obey just anyone who gives us instruction without thinking it through. However, when God asks something of us, He has a purpose, and it is for our best.

How many times in Scripture did God’s people promise to do whatever He asked of them yet, when push came to shove, they would do the exact opposite and judgment was quick to follow. “God just brought us out here to kill us,” they would cry or, “You’re a liar! God wouldn’t require that of us,” they’d exclaim to God’s prophet. You’d think after all the years that God has proven Himself (which He doesn’t have to do by the way), we would become quicker to obey His voice when we hear it. How stubborn we can be!

Scripture says “To obey is better than sacrifice.” (1 Samuel 15:22) It’s not that difficult. We simply need to humble ourselves, admit that we don’t know everything but that He does and that we are His servants. “If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14) It starts with repentance, surrender and obedience. If we ever want to see Revival in our land, it has to begin with us. Are you willing to obey God in whatever He asks of you?
