Sony’s Thoughts: Encouragement for Young Mothers
First of all, let me wish all you mothers a very blessed Mother’s Day. I hope you’re enjoying a day with your family and, if you’re a daughter and your mother’s still living, I hope you will take time to count your blessings. I’m blessed that my mom and my grandma are both still living but I’m reminded that not everyone can say that. If you know someone whose mom is no longer living, take a minute to let that person know they’re in your thoughts and prayers. That can be the biggest blessing.
As I was praying over what to write today, God brought to mind Galatians 6:9: “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” I find that mothers of young children often wonder if they’ll live to see the day when their children “rise up and call her blessed” (Proverbs 31:28). I have to laugh when people refer to mothers who “don’t work.” I’ve seen mamas who work a lot harder than most people who punch a clock. If you’re a young mother, I hope you see each of your children as a blessing from God because that’s exactly what they are.
When you become a mother, you have the incredible opportunity to train that little one in the ways of the Lord. You never know what your child will grow to be but you, as a mother, are to do what you can, in the power of the Holy Spirit to mold this little life and pray their heart will become God’s and that they’ll serve Him wholeheartedly. It’s a huge job but don’t be weary. Know that God is walking beside you and His grace is sufficient. The day will quickly come when you look back and wonder what happened to the days when your child looked to you for every need. Cherish each moment. Enjoy your children while you have them. One day they will look back and say, “Thank you, Mom, for your sacrifice. It’s because of you that I’m serving God today.” And then you will look to Heaven and thank God for entrusting you with these blessings. He really loves you. Draw near Him today.
