Guess the Baby Picture Contest (Part 4)

Do you know your favorite Southern Gospel personalities well enough that you would recognize them anywhereβ€”even in pictures from when they were children?

Let’s find out.

We’ve had great fun with episodes 1, 2, and 3. Here’s another installment: Can you name these three individuals?

Individual 1

Individual 2

Individual 3

The first person to correctly name all three in a single post will win a copy of Mark Bishop’s 2005 project There is Love . . . then there is His Love. One should be pretty easy, but on the flip side, one is of a face many of you haven’t seen in person and should be quite challenging.

  1. 1. David Johnson
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Mylon Hayes

this may be my last guess of the day. hope it was close.

    • I’m not saying that none of them were close or possibly right, but certainly not all of the above were right.

  2. Ehm, which is the easy one? πŸ˜‰

    • The easy one is the one that, I predict, at least 18 of the first 20 will get right. πŸ™‚

      • Oh, that one!
        Yup, still no clue. πŸ˜€
Am inclined to agree with IBSR on number two. The other two I honestly have no idea. If I suddenly get a brainwave, I’ll be back. πŸ˜‰

  3. 1. David Johnson
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Joseph Habedank

    • Sorry, not all of the above are correct!

I am anticipating that #3 may be very difficult.

  4. As usual, I predict to be way off, but well, I can’t resist trying to guess anyway. πŸ˜‰

    1. David Johnson
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Buddy Mullins

    • Not all of the above are correct.

      • I knew you were going to say that. Wonder why… πŸ˜‰

  5. David Johnson
    Roger Talley
    Dale Shelnut

    • How delightful to see you joining in on the guessing fun! πŸ™‚

One of the three is correct, but not all of the above!

  6. Ok, I’m on back.

    1. David Johnson
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Tony Creasman

    • IBSR – At least one of the three is correct – Roger Talley! πŸ™‚

  7. Just a wild random guess!
    1. Andrew Ishee
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Steve Hurst

    • Gayla, one of the three is correct – Roger Talley! πŸ™‚

  8. Y’all are nailing #2. It is indeed Roger Talley! I don’t think a single person has guessed that one wrong.

On the other two . . . keep guessing! πŸ™‚

  9. Im horrible at this game but just for fun here we go..

    #1. Roger Fortner
    #2. Phil Cross
    #3. Jeff Collins

  10. 1. Les Beasley
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Joel Lindsey

    • Sorry – not all of the above are correct!

      • Yeah, I did not figure I was right but as soon as I saw Roger’s picture, I knew it was him. LOL!

      • Yeah, that’s unmistakably Roger! πŸ™‚

  11. The first picture is a little tricky. You see black and white and think that it is older, but the kid is wearing pac-man pj’s.

    1. Stewart Varnado
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Greg Bently

    • Yes, the first picture is not incredibly old; however, you do not have all three correct. Sorry!

    • With the Pac Man pjs, the person is probably in their early to mid thirties now.

  12. 1. Tim Lovelace
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Still got me stumped… ehm… no clue

Just to get something right in guessing though, can I guess what your answer is going to be? πŸ˜‰
I think you’re going to say that not all of the above are correct. πŸ™‚

    • You’re correct as to my answer! πŸ™‚

      • How surprising. πŸ˜‰
Ok, well, here’s another guess. Probably my last for today, seeing as we’re approaching midnight here.

        1. Tim Lovelace
        2. Roger Talley
        3. Buddy Greene

      • Sorry, no!

What continent are you on? Europe?

      • Figured it wouldn’t be right. πŸ˜‰

Yes, I’m Dutch. Zeilfanaat means ‘sailing fan’, in case you were wondering. So for now, I’ll say – have a great rest of your day everyone. I’m heading for bed.

      • Very cool! I’d been trying to decrypt the meaning of your username for a while now.

Have a great night’s sleep! Meanwhile, I’m hoping that the Garms Family will wake up – err, get online – and start guessing shortly, to keep up the fun! πŸ™‚

      • Okay, okay, we’re awake now! πŸ™‚

No, actually we had been waiting till we could gather at least a few of the family together for this one, but the opportunity never really arose in this interesting day! So the few who remain awake will post their suggestions. Better late than never! πŸ˜€

        -T for TGF

  13. My guesses for the remaining two:
    #1 Riley Clark
    #3 Joseph Habedank

    • Great guesses – but sorry, no and no!

When Joseph was young, he looked quite a bit like he does now.

  14. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Jeremy Medkiff

As I’ve said before, I love this unique contest!!

    • Sorry, not all of the above are correct!

  15. 1. Tim Lovelace
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Jeremy Medkiff

    • Sorry, JSR – not all of the above are correct!

  16. #1 Jeff Tolbert

  17. Sorry – no!

  18. Can I ask if person #1 actually does play a fiddle? πŸ™‚

    • Sure, you can ask. πŸ™‚ Now as to whether I answer…

OK, I’ll sort of answer. I’m assuming that the answer is yes, that this person plays fiddle. However, that instrument is not this person’s primary vocal/instrumental performance skill.

  19. Haha! Thanks! πŸ™‚

  20. 1. Jamie Dailey

    2.Roger Talley

    3.Buddy Mullins

    • Sorry, not all of the above are correct.

  21. tim lovelace, roger talley, corey pearson?

  22. not sure i think its ben issacs roger talley michael booth

  23. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Josh Singletary

    • πŸ’‘

Now that’s a thought I wish I’d had – running two of the same individual in the same post!

That said, it’s not a thought that I actually had. πŸ™‚

      • I didn’t really think both were him, I was just hoping at least one of them was.

      • Well . . . you were correct! πŸ™‚

  24. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. David Bruce Murray

    • Ha! I really should ask DBM for a childhood picture; that would be pretty fun.

Sorry, not all of the above are correct.

  25. josh singletary roger talley and vincent not sure of the guys first name

    • #3 is not a bluegrass performer, so no, not all three are correct.

  26. We’ve wracked our brains, trying to put all our detective/observation skills to work. πŸ™‚

    1.) Josh Singletary
    2.) Roger Talley
3.)…and we’re stumped. (But not for long!)

    At least we tried.

So, if one of the guys/photos (we’re assuming it’s photo number three) “is of a face many of you haven’t seen in person and should be quite challenging”, is he a studio musician/engineer or involved in the media (radio, magazine) side of the industry?

Or can you not give away hints? πŸ™‚

In the meanwhile, we’ll keep thinking.

  27. Again (for now):
    1.) Josh Singletary
    2.) Roger Talley
    3.)…
    – Jason Webb
    – Greg Bentley

Ben gives up. “It’s all too hard for me”, he says. πŸ™‚

We’ll go back to bed now! πŸ™‚
    -TGF

  28. Last guess of the day.

    1. David Johnson
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Ian Owens

  29. Good morning! I’m back! And since no one has guessed each one correctly yet (in the same post at least ;)), I’m just going to see if I can think of some more people. πŸ™‚

    1. Stan Whitmire
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Still baffles me… ehm… Gary McSpadden

  30. OK, the trending is strongly enough toward figuring out #1 that I’ll reveal it, too. As Andrew S. was the first to correctly guess, it’s Josh Singletary.

There is the distinct resemblance, which I saw from the start with knowing it was him; however, the fiddle threw everyone off for a while! πŸ™‚

As to #3, nobody has guessed it yet. Keep guessing! Hints: If this person plays piano or sings, that is not – or at least not primarily – what we know this person for. We know him (yes, him, naturally) for an industry role. Further hints: No, it’s not one of my co-workers. πŸ™‚

    • By the way, I had this in the back of my mind from the start: If nobody can guess #3, then the CD will go to Andrew S. for being the first to guess the only two that were ultimately guessed.

    • nuts. he was the only one that I was definitively sure I had figured out. so it’s not Tim Lovelace… πŸ™‚

  31. Hmm… well, I highly doubt I’m going to be guessing right, but at least by not knowing that many people, I don’t need to make big decisions on who to choose. πŸ˜‰

    1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Norman Holland

    • Sorry, not Norman!

      • Figured. Looks like I’m out of guesses. Will be back to find out who it was. πŸ™‚ Thanks for the challenge, Daniel!

      • You’re welcome! I’ve had a great time so far, and I haven’t given up hope yet that someone will get it!

  32. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Danny Jones

    • Nope, not Danny!

(And yes, now that I’ve revealed the first two, and I’m saying no specifically, person by person, on the third, the race is on!)

  33. Well it must be
    1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Danny Jones

    • Wait, what? Sorry…I interpreted your post wrong.

      • In hindsight, I think I made one of the dumbest posts in the history of the internet just now. I think that’s a pretty good accomplishment.

    • Yes, you interpreted my post wrong. But I am sure there are thousands of more embarrassing posts made in the history of the Internet!

  34. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Les Butler

  35. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Russ Farrar

  36. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Bill Traylor

    • Sorry, not Bill. His face is decidedly more angular, I think.

And I’ll just say it now. It’s not Dottie Leonard Miller of Daywind, either! πŸ™‚

  37. any more hints you can give? πŸ™‚

    • I’ve already given quite a few. πŸ™‚

Umm . . . there is an e in his name.

      A

      • E is the most common letter in the English language, you know.

      • Yeah, I know that. πŸ™‚

  38. Ed Harper?

    • Sorry, not Ed!

      It’s not Beckie Simmons, either!

      • Ed Leonard?

      • Sorry, not Ed, or Rick Shelton, Norm Holland, or any other Daywind staffer!

      • Of course not! There’s no E in Rick or Norm. πŸ™‚

      • Oh, I’d forgotten I’d given that hint.

Additional hint: The e is not (or at least not only) in his middle name; I don’t know his middle name. It may be in his first name or his last name, though, to clear up any misunderstandings there.

(After all, Rick Shelton does have an e in his last name, but it’s not him.)

  39. 1.Josh Singletary

    2.Roger Talley

    3.Les Butler

  40. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Greg Ritchie

    • Sorry, not Greg!

I am glad to see you back in this, though, since you’re the one I’d be sending it to if nobody can get #3!

      • Oh.. You don’t have to send me a prize. I just like to guess. πŸ™‚

  41. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Eddie Crook

  42. is #3 Kenneth Kirksey?

    • Sorry, no, and it’s not Carolyn Kirksey, either!

  43. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Jerry Kirksey

  44. 3. Bill Gaither

  45. 1. JS
    2. RT
    3. Wes Burke

    • Ha! But no!

    • Now THAT’S funny!

  46. Ok, so I said I was out of guesses… and I was! But then I just noticed the third still wasn’t guessed, so I decided to go look around for a bit. Not that I found much (yet ;)), but hey, there’s an ‘e’ in there! πŸ˜€

    1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Charles Dorris

  47. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Parker Webb

  48. 1. Singletary
    2. Talley
    3. Dewayne Burke

    • No, not Dewayne.

I don’t recall whether I said: Whether or not this individual sings at all, this person is primarily known as a non-singing industry individual.

  49. Does industry/non-singing person also mean non-musician?

    1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Jeff Taylor

    • Non-regularly-performing musician, at any rate.

      • Hmm, ok, well, looks like I’ll have to sleep on it. πŸ˜‰
        (Although I still suspect I don’t know the man, so I don’t know why I keep guessing…)

Have a great rest of your day everyone, and good luck guessing number 3! Hope someone will get it right! πŸ˜€

      • I suspect that you haven’t seen the individual in question in person, at any rate!

      • Unless he has been to The Netherlands somewhere during the past few years, nope, for I’ve never been to the U.S. πŸ˜‰

      • Correct, and that’s what I was guessing!

      • Ah, so as opposed to the rest of us here so far, you guessed right! πŸ˜‰
And on that happy note, I’m off to bed.
        See you around!
        Z.

      • Well, I was guessing on an easier point in question! πŸ™‚

  50. Another shot in the dark

    1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Scott Barnett

    • Sorry, no – not one of my co-workers!

  51. LOL! Well shoot. I believe this one is the toughest so far.

    • The one with the bonus question of Clarke Beasley would have topped it, had I included it in the ones that had to be guessed!

  52. 1. JS
    2. RT
3.?? I’m going out on a limb here: Jeremy Medkiff?

    • Good to hear from you, Ross! It’s been a while.

No, not Jeremy. I think his hair was very curly when he was younger.

      • Jeremy had hair when he was younger???
You’re right, it has been a while. I’ve been trying to keep up with everything on here though. Great blog Daniel!

      • Thanks! I think he did!

  53. #3 Jacob Kitson

  54. I’m horrible at this and just embarrass my self, especially since I’m so unfamiliar with so many SG personalities….

    #3 Gerald Crabb

  55. Sorry, not Gerald!

  56. I’m with J.C. – I think this is the toughest so far.

Ok, Dutch gal going out on a limb:
    1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Ben Speer

    • Sorry, not Ben!

      • How about another letter? πŸ˜€

      • OK. I (not necessarily uppercase!)

      • Thanks! πŸ™‚

Ok, me still being in an extreme frame of mind when it comes to crazy guesses of people I’ve never met and probably never seen:

        1. Josh Singletary
        2. Roger Talley
        3. Mosie Lister

I won’t say this is my last guess, even if it probably will be, ’cause I’ve already said that a few times. πŸ˜‰

      • Sorry – not Mosie!

Not a songwriter, regular performer, or record label staffer.

  57. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Chris Unthank

    • No, not Chris. This individual’s last name begins with a B.

  58. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Les Beasley

(i didn’t see him guessed before- but i could have missed it)

  59. Sorry – not him!

  60. 1. Josh Singletary
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Bill Bailey

    • We have a WINNER! πŸ™‚

hostofheaven, please send us a mailing address through the contact form!

      • Yay, congratulations, Hostofheaven! πŸ˜€
Now I need to go and find a more recent picture of Mr. Bill Bailey to see who had us all stumped.

      • Congrats, hostofheaven!!! Thankfully, someone got it!!

  61. #3 is Anthony Burger.

  62. 1. Keith Waggoner
    2. Roger Talley
    3. Mark Bishop

    • Sorry, the correct answer has already been guessed; see above!

  63. Oops, my bad!
