42 Letters to the Editor

Southern Gospel Journal welcomes letters to the editor. We will post the most thoughtful and insightful submissions. Ground rules: Don't attack or belittle groups or fellow posters, or advance heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity. Do keep comments positive, constructive, and on topic.
  1. Wait, I thought Wes Hampton’s “A Man Like Me” had been released already. I’m sure I’m missing something obvious.

    • Yeah, I bought that album last October at a concert in Indiana. Good stuff.

    • JSR – It was probably released as a table project, and did well enough that they’re now releasing it to retail.

      • Great that is received a promotion from the table.
        Wonder what DBM is thinking?

      • Did he pan it, or something?

      • Not to take away from subject at hand but you asked.
        [EDIT, 3/16/13: Broken link removed.]

      • Oh – that was Kyle Boreing, on DBM’s website. 🙂

      • I’m not sure about DBM, but I’m sure the engineer panned it.

      • The master of goofy puns has returned!

      • At least I am master of something. 😀 I have been busy with church, extra hours on my second job, personal projects and if you mosey over to Musicscribe this week, you will see a couple of extra projects I’ve had going there too. 🙂

  2. Guy Penrod’s CD was a similar situation….indie for a while then retail release.

The Oak Ridge Boys have a new project coming out on September 19th, exclusively through Cracker Barrel, no doubt taking advantage of the Gaither connection…..

  3. 9/23: God’s Been Faithful, Liberty Quartet

  4. I don’t know the title; But Legacy Five is releasing their new label release during NQC week…

    • I checked with Daywind staff; they must have an awful lot on their minds, since they didn’t remember to mention it! 🙂 However, I’m sure it will be announced in time for my September/October post one month from now.

      • Ok noted… 🙂 L5 is though a little different from other groups on Daywind when it comes to their CD releases, they will in a lot of cases do the entire project themselves (hence Scott Fowler always being executive producer) but they will then submit the final product to Daywind once the final mix and master is done… Daywind will then release it to retail. I believe “Just Stand” even though L5 had them at NQC two years ago was not actually released to retail until around October…

      • Ah; perhaps retail is farther out.

      • According to the L-5 newsletter, the group’s new cd is called, A Wonderful Life. They also have a brand new dvd, Live! from California, releasing at NQC, too.

      • Are there release dates?

  5. Homeland Entertainment release Southern Sound’s “Sailing Smooth” project on August 4th. It’s taken a year of hard work to finally finish what we believe is our best recording to date.

    • Thanks, and updated! I look forward to hearing it!

  6. Promise should have their new, self titled project released at NQC… or so I hear. I also hear the producer is that guy who first made the song, Champion of Love, popular.

    • Very cool!

(I was tempted to ask whether the time frame was an estimate or a promise. But I won’t. 🙂 )

  7. Does anyone have any further information about John Bowman’s album? That seems like such a neat premise.

    • Well, given that I work for his record company, I’ve heard the final mix. 🙂

I can tell you that Jeff & Sheri Easter provide background vocals on quite a few songs.

      • Is the song list all songs written by Joe? Do Sonya, Ben, and Becky provide background vocals as well?

      • Yes, the song list is all Joe’s songs. I’ve only noticed Jeff & Sheri on backgrounds so far.

  8. Just received an email from Gaither.com with this…
“The Best of Sandi Patty DVD & CD release August 23.”

  9. I am glad to see the new gold city cd is finally being released in SEptember. Does anyone agree that it has been a long time coming?

    • Definitely, but there have been a lot of hurdles slowing them down.

  10. Two more releases not mentioned are Charlotte Ritchie: “Windows In The World” due out August 23rd. Gene McDonald also has a new one coming out: “If We Love Them” slated to come out on August 16th.

    • Thanks, Nate! Wow, the list keeps getting longer!

  11. I have already started my shopping list for NQC. I always use your lists as reference points… 🙂

  12. Anyone know when Ball Brothers “Recharged” is out?

    • It’s a table project, and it’s on their table now!

      • Thanks. I knew it was a table project but I haven’t seen the full album on their website yet.

      • Does anyone know if we will be able to download the rest of Recharged? They let us download like six songs but i want the rest of the CD but i don’t really wanna pay another $15 for only 4 songs.

  13. I’m hoping that you’ll be able to add Tim Duncan’s solo project to that list by the end of the month. 🙂

    • I would be delighted to!

    • Is that saying the Timmy CD is coming out soon? And do you have word on when Ryan Seaton’s love CD is releasing. And Daniel I think ya forgot about L5 new CD “A Wonderful Life”

      • (1) Not saying anything; I’d be happy to post the information if someone finds it.

        (2) No idea.

        (3) No, I didn’t forget; I haven’t heard an actual release date yet.
