Bass singer Brandon Barry left The Old Paths one month ago today. (He joined the LeFevre Quartet.) The Old Paths announced this morning that their new bass singer is 21-year-old Daniel Ashmore of Southaven, Mississippi.

[EDIT] Here’s a much better video of his voice:

  1. Daniel is a good kid and has an awesome bass voice. I think that everyone will be impressed with not only his voice but his heart for ministry. It is pretty cool to have such a great bass singer from my neck of the woods. He has filled in for the group that my little brother sings with a few times. Thanks for the post Daniel!

    • Heard them last week. Daniel is real smooth. Reminds me of Big John Hall when he was a kid.

      • Wow! (Both about the high compliment and that you knew Big John as a kid. I don’t even know who he was with before joining the Blackwood Brothers. Stamps?)

      • Just shows you how old I am.

      • Well, to have heard Big John and so many others in their prime is quite a blessing! πŸ™‚

      • “Wow! (Both about the high compliment and that you knew Big John as a kid. I don’t even know who he was with before joining the Blackwood Brothers. Stamps?)” You joined the Blackwood Brothers? πŸ˜‰

Yeah, Big John was with the Stamps (not a big group at the time). The Stamps and Junior Blackwoods were both losing a lot of money. J.D. decided the only thing to do would be join the Stamps and manage it. So, he and Big John traded places.

      • I was thinking he might have been the other bass in that trade, but wasn’t remembering clearly. Thanks!

  2. I may be 5-10 years older than big John. I am trying to remember where he was from. Maybe Texas? We may need to know more about these great singers of the past. Maybe someone can help us. I think I see him occasionally on some of the religious network broadcasts

    • I believe that he was from Texas, and lives there now. He is one of the great singers of the past whom I would indeed love to know more about.

    • Thanks, Josh! It’s so much better than the one I had there that I just edited it in.

    • Wow! What a find! What a Voice!
