Saturday News Roundup #90

Worth Knowing

  • Gaither: The Gaither Homecoming television specials are hitting a wider audience this weekend (and the following two); a Homecoming special will air at 2 P.M. (Eastern?) on CNBC today. Tent Revival Homecoming is airing today; more details are here.
  • Triumphant Quartet:Β Triumphant Quartet’s latest single, “Saved By Grace,” is #1 on the Singing News Top 80 for November 2011. Odd tidbit of the day: They never had a #1 hit with Daywind, but their first two singles with Mansion have both gone to #1.

Rumor has it, the BRAND NEW @TributeQuartet.com is going to have a new feature called Tribute TV! …episodes “from the road” kinda stuff!!

  2. Hey, y’all: Aaron Swain has posted quite a few videos of the new Gold City lineup on his site this afternoon, here: http://swainsmusings.com/blog/2011/10/08/youtube-feature-gold-city-with-jerry-pelfrey/

    • Thanks for the plug, Daniel! I think everyone is going to be very impressed with this lineup and its potential is very high.

      • No problem! The vocal blend on the final chord of “When He Blessed My Soul” does indeed show great promise for the future. πŸ™‚

      • I couldn’t believe that one! It’s funny; quartet-man and I were discussing in another thread about Mark Trammell grabbing a high note so the tenor could move up, and then Jerry went and did the same thing! That’s as much a testament to his range as it is his ability to blend.

  3. Hey Everyone!

Did you y’all buy Visa gift-cards for today?

    Remember?

    • I’m sorry.. must have slipped my mind.

By the way, I believe he crossed a mile marker age. πŸ™‚

    • Oh, dear, I forgot! I must not have logged onto Facebook all day!

  4. Daniel A. shows on “Going Home” why he is an up and coming bass singer in Southern Gospel! Thanks for the video Daniel M.!

  5. The latest CD review widget on the sidebar is cool and looks nice! πŸ™‚ But the link to the Biblical Bookshelf directly from SGB was handy, too…

    • It’s still there, on the home page! πŸ™‚

      • 😳 Since it wasn’t in the normal spot, a quick perusal of the site seemed to indicate it was missing! πŸ™‚

      • πŸ™‚ No problem! Your comments a few months back about images led me to realize the value of having some color on the home page. I figure that putting CD reviews first should help!

      • Yes, the widget looks great and does add a nice, interactive “live” touch to the blog. Good addition! πŸ˜€

      • Cool! πŸ™‚

      • I noticed that widget too and it is cool and a very nice addition.

      • Thanks!

Now it’s not perfect … it’s set to display the latest six, and I count one, two, three, four, five. πŸ™‚ Maybe I’ll figure that one out eventually! πŸ™‚

  6. Maybe you would get it this Saturday, but I think GV’s launching digital downloads for All its out-of-print music is FANTASTIC! and that other artists should follow suit.

(Although GV’s the only one I’d really care too much about. Unless somebody did it for the Cathedrals. Anyway.)

I now have a real reason to save my pennies!

    • Yes, it is cool!

By the way, is Sing it Again a straight compilation, or is it a live performance and/or with new renditions of tracks?

      (I don’t collect compilations!)

      • I haven’t got that far yet. I confess I’m out of date, though; I have only bought two new CDs since I got married last October, and those were with birthday money. (Greater Vision’s two latest, of course.)

It took forever for the site to open; I wonder if Greater Vision fans are crashing the servers or if it is usually that slow!

      • Thanks; I had been hoping that perhaps someone else knew, too.

      • Rodney’s singing “He Is Mine” on the preview; also I can’t make out Trammell on “New Wine” or “On a Journey,” so I’m going to guess the improbable is true and these are remakes. Interesting!

      • Yes, interesting!

      • Sing It Again is Gerald, Rodney, and Jason on all those songs, so it was the current lineup at that time.

    • It’s remakes, and it is not live, despite what the cover art suggests (I think they made a separate live video). I don’t remember if the tracks are different, but the vocals are.

      • Oh, and “Sweet Beulah Land” was never previously recorded anyway, so you should at least get that. But it is not a compilation, so I would get it if I were you.

      • Thanks, Brian! I will plan to get that at some point, then.

      • Listening to it now, and they are new tracks, by the way. They’re not much different from the originals, but slightly so.

  7. Gold City’s new album is finally finished and due to release the first week of November. By the way, your link to open threads doesn’t work right. πŸ™‚

    • Ah, thanks! I changed some settings so open threads would show up in the new “latest columns” sidebar, but forgot this part. I will fix it, and thanks for letting me know!
