Mike Hammontree leaves Blackwood Brothers

The Blackwood Brothers have just announced (on Facebook) that pianist Mike Hammontree is leaving the group. [EDIT, 6/18/12: Broken link removed.] He had toured with his family prior to joining the Blackwood Brothers, and continued to tour with them on days the group was off.

Prior to Hammontree’s joining the group, baritone Billy Blackwood played piano on a few numbers, so the Blackwood Brothers do have that option, should they continue with the four members for now.

3 Letters to the Editor

Southern Gospel Journal welcomes letters to the editor. We will post the most thoughtful and insightful submissions. Ground rules: Don't attack or belittle groups or fellow posters, or advance heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity. Do keep comments positive, constructive, and on topic.
  1. I got to see them last Thursday night. My four year old daughter is a huge Blackwood Brothers fan and so I drove 2 hours to Memphis so she could see them. There were two things that I noticed odd at the beginning of the concert. One, I did not see the two standard Shure 55 microphones that they had been using previously and secondly, I did not see Mike. All Jimmy said during the program was that their pianist was not with them that night so nobody there knew if he was just absent this concert or if it was a permanent absence. Thanks Daniel for keeping us in the loop. Oh just to hint on my first observation, I thought they sounded better using the four wireless microphones and after talking to one of the guys after the concert, it sounds like they may be using them more often than not. Thanks again Daniel!

  2. This is a smiliar comment I made October 5, 2011 when the subject of the Blackwoods was a topic of an article by Daniel.
This comment is repeated to continue the clarity process.

This was the website that Jimmy Blackwood used while in a soloist ministry a few years ago:
Jimmy Blackwood now has his own group ministry which can be found here:
Jimmy Blackwood & Blackwood Brothers Quartet
Both above listed sites have the same main content.

Also, there was a merger of the Toney Brothers and theMark Blackwood and Blackwood Quartet.
