31 Letters to the Editor

Southern Gospel Journal welcomes letters to the editor. We will post the most thoughtful and insightful submissions. Ground rules: Don't attack or belittle groups or fellow posters, or advance heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity. Do keep comments positive, constructive, and on topic.
  1. I think Soul’d Out has an independent hymns project releasing in January called Soulace, but I don’t know the date.

    • I’m aware that it is coming out shortly, but I haven’t heard title or date yet.

      • Thats funny that you haven’t heard the title yet since its in the post announcing Hutson’s arrival 🙂

      • Ah, OK, I’d just forgotten!

  2. Wow, you listed two country singers…..John Berry (who has made a career switch from country to gospel music), and TG Sheppard.

    • In my defense, I didn’t have the faintest clue who TG Sheppard was. Now I was happy to list John Berry; according to promotional information distributed, he’s going into Gospel Music full-time, and thus would fit within the intended scope of this column.

      • TG Sheppard is actually the artist that introduced our family to “Mary Did You Know” during a concert at his theater in Pigeon Forge during the 90’s.

      • Interesting!

      • I heard it from Michael English’s first solo album (which I got the day it came out as I recall).

      • Daniel… Is this the same John Berry who recorded “Your Love Amazes Me”?

      • Yes.

  3. Aren’t the Perrys doing a DVD or something soon?

    • Either it’s more than two months out, or Daywind isn’t releasing it.

  4. Check out the “Upcoming” column at this link: http://www.daywindrecords.com/ Heard anything about it?

    • I had been going off of what Daywind’s publicity person told me. Perhaps she wasn’t aware of it, perhaps the details are not finalized, and perhaps the website is out of date.

      • Its probably the latest “Live At OakTree” video.

  5. Is there a Brian free DVD from daywind

    • I believe that, back in the day, Live in New York City was available as a DVD.

  6. Sorry I mean coming out

    • Don’t know of any, within the next two months at any rate.

  7. Thank you

  8. Daniel, I can’t find ANYTHING about Mark Lowery’s upcoming DVD. What’s up? Is Daywind just not publicizing very well? And in response to BM’s question, the Daywind website says that there’s a Brian Free and Assurance DVD coming out as well (look in the “Upcoming” column. It’s scheduled for February 7)

    • To answer the questions about upcoming releases from Brian Free & Assurance and the Perrys, yes, they have new DVD projects coming out this spring. Once we get firm release dates set for those projects, I’ll pass them along to Daniel to include in his list!

      • Thanks for clearing that up!

      • Oh, OK. That’s nice to get cleared up! Thanks Dani for telling us. 🙂

  9. Ah, I believe Nate was right. There was some stuff about the Perrys and Assurance in the Oaktree studio on Facebook. And then I found this: http://burkesbrainwork.wordpress.com/2011/08/25/new-entries-in-live-at-oak-tree-series/ Don’t know if you saw this or not, but I thought I’d post it anyway. I’m just wondering why Daywind doesn’t publicize better. 🙂

  10. Hey Daniel, when I type in southerngospeljournal.com it goes to GatorHost…I had to do a search to reach an open page.

  11. Asked Tracy about the Perrys DVD release last night at a singing in Rutherfordton, NC. According to him they are waiting for the company who is doing the final editing and mixing to deliver the product. They already have cases and such to be able to sell once it arrives. From the conversation I had with him, i get that he expected to already have it by now but gave me a end of the month at best date. I would expect more mid to late February.

  12. Has anybody heard anything about Michael English’s new solo project? Something was said about it in Homecoming Magazine, but I just wanted to see if anybody else knew…
