25 Letters to the Editor

Southern Gospel Journal welcomes letters to the editor. We will post the most thoughtful and insightful submissions. Ground rules: Don't attack or belittle groups or fellow posters, or advance heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity. Do keep comments positive, constructive, and on topic.
  1. Daniel, the title at the top of the site is still appearing the way it did on April 1st.

    • Are you talking about the southerngospeljournal.com in the logo? The correct file has been returned to the server, but your browser’s cache must be remembering the old one. Try doing a Ctrl-Shift-R for a hard refresh (Cmd-Shift-R on the Mac).

      • I’ve tried the hard refresh, clearing my cache, and deleting my cookies from here, but it’s still in Morse. I know it shows up fine on my computer at home, so something about this work computer doesn’t want to let it go. No big deal, and I know there’s nothing you can do about it. I’m sure it will go away eventually. 🙂

      • Glad to hear it’s working at home! Yes, once I have verified that the correct file is on the server, there’s not all that much more that I can do!

      • For part of the day the logo went back to normal, but it is back to lines and dots again…I don’t know.

      • Just weird cache issues! 🙂

  2. Looks like Crossroads is busy…where’s everyone else? Seems like Daywind had a bunch of big releases last year, so they’re going to be in kind of a lull. Good for Crossroads!

Do you happen to know if the Inspirations are planning on releasing a new recording later this year?

    • Oh, these things come and go in cycles. In the first three months of the year, the Soul’d Out release was the only major artist SG project I can remember. (We were busy with quite a few Bluegrass projects, including an all-Gospel Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver project.)

And do I ever have some good news for you … the Inspirations are in the studio THIS WEEK, cutting tracks and vocals for their new project! Even more good news: They are re-cutting “In the Twinkle of an Eye.” Despite its status as a radio hit, the lineup that recorded it hardly ever staged it. But today’s lineup has been singing it, and people have been asking at the table for a recorded version by the current group. 🙂

      • Great…not everyone does it anymore, but the Inspirations consistently put out a project of new songs every year. I love that about them.

The last year they didn’t release a new studio recording was 1994. They released two in 1993, however.

  3. Both are independent releases.

Mercy’s Well- Worship: Modern Hymns for Every Generation (04/16)
Dixie Echoes- Live! at Silver Dollar City (04/16)

    Daywind’s releases:
Sisters: An a Cappella Collection (05/17) [Daywind]
Perrys: Celebrate Me Home (04/17) [Daywind]

Is there a track listing for the McKameys’ cd? I heard that Roger has a solo. :O

    • Thanks, Andrew! I don’t think that the McKameys’ track listing has been released yet, but it is indeed true that Roger has a solo. 🙂

I’m not sure if the Perrys video is on schedule.

      • The main reason for seeing a track list is to see if there were a few older tunes on the project. When I talked with them in January, they were contemplating revisiting a couple of their “big” songs.

I’m not sure about the Perrys dvd anymore. With the production being pushed back for the Sisters’ project, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Perrys’ dvd received the same.

    • The McKameys track listing is now up:

      1. Bearing Precious Seed
      2. I Am A Vessel
      3. Nothing But Grace
      4. This Blessed Old Book
      5. When He Speaks
      6. Story Untold
      7. Unspoken Request (Rogers’s solo)
      8. When I Think About Heaven
      9. Some Morning I Shall Stand
      10. The Touch
      11. Finish Well

  4. Wes hampton just posted that GVB is in the studio to day to work on a new project. CAN’T WAIT!!

    • I’m looking forward to that, but the one I’m really on the edge of my seat in anticipation for is the next Mark Trammell Quartet CD. 🙂

      • Hopefully still on track for NQC time, if not before.

  5. 2nd Generation’s new album Faithful (produced by Roger Talley) streets May 30. They aren’t “major label status” – but they’re full-time, on a paid showcase at NQC, and get GREAT radio airplay…Actually writing a press release about it now!

    • Who is Second Generation? I know of a quartet by that name, but I doubt it’s the same one you’re thinking of. Do they have a website?

      • I’ll add that to the May release post.

  6. I thought the new BFA CD was coming out in May? Did it get pushed back again?

    • I don’t know.

    • Not sure about an official word, but I don’t see a May release happening. They’re scheduled to record vocals next week… Looking forward to hearing it!

  7. I thought the Kingdom Heirs had already released By Request. It’s listed on their web site

    • That’s the retail / iTunes release date.

      • Man, silly me had a crazy thought they were releasing a new CD. I didn’t even think about it being the same thing as their table project from last year. I guess the fact that it had the exact same title should have been a signal. Oh well…strike one off the list to get. 🙂
