enLighten moves to permanent home on Sirius/XM dial

Two years ago this month, Sirius/XM announced that it was moving enLighten off of the satellite radio dial and transferring it to an online-only channel. After receiving extensive feedback from Southern Gospel fans, they reversed course and kept it on the air.

After this move, it was placed on channel 18 as a temporary measure. It has remained on this channel, a special events channel, for two years. enLighten has announced that it will be moving to its permanent home next Thursday, May 9, onย Sirius XM Channel 65 and Dish TV Channel 6065. This will place them adjacent to SiriusXM’s other two Christian channels,ย The Message and Praise.

16 Letters to the Editor

Southern Gospel Journal welcomes letters to the editor. We will post the most thoughtful and insightful submissions. Ground rules: Don't attack or belittle groups or fellow posters, or advance heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity. Do keep comments positive, constructive, and on topic.
  1. Great! Glad they will still be on the air. Although they do not always play what I feel is the best in SG music, it is often the only listening option I have for SG. Enlighten is the sole reason I have XM.

  2. That is a very true statement Stephen. Sometimes I wonder about their selections, but other times it is great. Guess that is the same for any radio station.

    • I too agree with both of you. The selection of songs is not always up to par. But, it is the only reason that I have prescribed to satellite radio for the past six years.

  3. You can tell that they are a secular company. We Christians know that this isn’t our final home. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • *clears throat*

Umm, satellite radio channels are not eligible for admission to Heaven, last I heard. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Sweet Lord! There better not be muzak in heaven! ๐Ÿ˜‰ — and this is my first post at your fine blog, thank you for all you do Daniel. And to all of you – such wonderful and constructive comments. I heard this news and this was the first place I came for the truth!

      • Thank you for reading and commenting! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Like the previous comments, Enlighten is the ONLY reason I subscribe. I have a two hour commute (both ways) and this makes it bearable. I started listening to Enlighten when it was internet only. I was disappointed when I couldn’t find it on Sirius/XM in my truck, and was considering cancelling my subscription. When I did find it, it seemed my commute became shorter. Like R. Wells, this is my first post to your blog. In fact, my first time to http://www.sogoradio.com. I’ve heard it mentioned several times, but never seemed to think of it at the right time.

  5. I agree with the above comments. Enlighten is the ONLY reason I subscribed to XM as well. I waited and prayed for a SG station. Since I live in CA, there is little to no access to my favorite music. I do wish there was an increase in the air play of the top 100, but beggars can’t be choosers, so I’ll just praise God for what I have!

  6. Well, I guess I have to jump on the bandwagon too. Other than listening to a football game now and then, the ONLY thing we listen to On Sirius is Enlighten. We only have satellite radio in one of our vehicles so I sometimes go for several weeks without even listening. We enjoy it when we go on long road trips so I guess it’s worth the price of the subscription. I usually like Paul Heil and Daniel Britt’s programs. Sometimes I turn the radio on and find out that what’s playing just isn’t what I’m interested in so if I’m in a mood for music I plug in my MP3 player. I guess if we don’t tell them about out likes and dislikes they won’t change what they do.

  7. Glad you posted this. I pushed my 18 button and did not receive my SG. I was about to cancel sirius. I googled a query and found you. Thanks for posting.

    • You’re welcome! Glad you found it at its new home.

  8. Praise God for it!!! Its a place where the gospel is heard…Jesus

  9. I enjoy staion very much. However I cannot google one of my favorites. I forgive myself. I believe the group is the three bridges. Can you find the lyrics.
