The Perrys hire David Ragan

David RaganLast night, the Perrys announced that David Ragan will be their new lead singer. He had been filling in for the last several weeks and has now been offered and accepted the permanent position.

David commented:

Whenever the Inspirations would sing with the Perrys, I always enjoyed it. I’ve been a fan of theirs for along time. With the lead singers they’ve had through the years, I know I have big shoes to fill, and I’m thankful for that opportunity. I thought the biggest change for me would be going from a male group to one that’s co-ed, but Bryan, Leah and I gelled almost immediately. They’re both laid back and very easy to travel with. Bryan is such a great singer with one of the best hearts. And Libbi is incredible. I’m not sure I could put into words the grace and determination she has. I admire her and Tracy both very much, and respect this ministry they’ve built. I’m very happy to be a part of this fine team.

Libbi Perry Stuffle added:

On behalf of the Perrys, Tracy and I are thrilled to welcome David, his wife Michelle, and son Bradley to our FAMILY! We have known David for several years and have always admired his love for God, the music and the fans. We are excited to start a new chapter with David.

There are enough stylistic difference between The Inspirations (David’s previous group) and The Perrys that some observers questioned whether he would be able to make the stylistic transition. Within weeks, though, he was erasing all doubt with performances like this one:

  1. I was hoping that this was coming!!! David is a great singer and will be an awesome addition to The Perrys!!! Thanks for the update!!

  2. Probably one of the best choices they have. David will do a great job with the Perrys. He has a great personality and loves what he does as well as being a good witness. I think when Libbi gets back on the road they will really bless the people, of course they are doing that now. Maybe they will remain just a trio if Tracy isn’t able to return or until he is able to return.

  3. Man..watching the video(s)..with David singing with them….i mean not to take anything away from Joseph’s talent…but! David fills in really nicely…the blend and also his solo efforts are spot on!…God is good!!..may he continue to Bless the Perry’s for their continued work in the field !!!

  4. GREAT HIRE!! Congratulations my friend.

  5. Awesome hire!!

That video in particular seemed to win a lot of people over, myself included. The Inspirations and The Perrys are both fine groups, but completely different stylistically. David really stepped up and showed what he could do there.

    • And I also can’t read, apparently. You said that already! 🙂

  6. In the words of Larry the Cable Guy, “That’s some great singing right there, I don’t care who ya are.”

  7. Great choice by the Perry’s !!! Praying for Gods blessing in the transition!

  8. I’ve never seen you in anything but shiny black shoes lol. Great job and congratulations to one of gospel music’s good guys. I’m so happy for you my friend!!

    • So do the Inspirations wear shiny black shoes even when sleeping on the bus? Or playing basketball? 🙂

  9. You bet we do! But we do take our suit jackets off when we play basketball or go swimming, etc. Not the shirt and tie and shiny shoes, mind you, but the suit jacket only!

    • Haha! That’s actually one of the first things Libbi told me—“you don’t have to wear patent leather shoes here!” Maybe I’ll break them out every once in a while for old time’s sake! Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

      • It’s an answer to prayer–I was so upset when I heard that David was leaving the Inspirations, but when I read that he will filling in with the Perrys – I was praying real hard then. God is good and always seems to open new doors when he closes old doors. Hopefully, David will be a blessing to the Perrys and the Perrys will be a blessing for David and his family. God Bless!

    • 🙂

    • Haha! Well, Jon, if I recall correctly, you were in a t-shirt after the concert Thursday night lol. And tennis shoes, I believe.

  10. David and Michelle are a fine young couple. It was our great pleasure to get to know them while they lived in the area and attended Victory Baptist Church here in Sylva, NC. They are just good people and we miss them!
