turns 7

Seven years ago today, on September 18, 2006, I posted this site’s first post. I didn’t have the faintest idea how far this would go; your readership and participation in the comments has been well beyond my most optimistic dreams.

Last week another milestone, as I wrote my personal 3,000th post here. (Thanks to contributors, we’re at 3,253 total posts.) And there have been 47,763 approved commentsβ€”more than a few of which came last week, as the NQC free Friday webcast live-blog was the most-discussed post in this site’s history. More than anything else, it’s your comments and feedback, publicly and privately, that keeps me going.

Thank you for all your support for these first seven years!

  1. We enjoy and appreciate what you do. What do we say, Happy seventh Blogday? πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! Sure, that works! πŸ™‚

  2. Congratulations on seven years!!

  3. Happy BirthBlogDay!!! I’m rather new here…but someone told me if I want truthful, impartial information I should look you up. πŸ™‚ So, I did. Have enjoyed all you post. Keep ’em coming! Thanks for all you do.

  4. Well congratulations Daniel…hope it will last for many more years! Keep up the good work!

  5. I enjoy your posts every day, Daniel. Thank you very much for all the hard work you continue to put in to this site.

    • You’re welcome! And thank you for joining in the discussions!

  6. Congrats and thanks for 7 years of hard work. For something you get little to no money for we appreciate what you do. Thanks.

    Happy Blogday!

    • Thanks! And in case anyone was wondering, it’s a completely volunteer effort. πŸ™‚ I don’t run ads because I like the way it looks without ads, and I pay for the hosting myself. As hobbies go, it’s the most rewarding hobby I’ve ever taken up. πŸ™‚

  7. As someone who knows a little about what it takes to run a blog and how easy it is for it to become inactive, I commend you on 7 years of daily posts. Not only the energy it takes to write a post, but to come up with fresh content that your readers will enjoy. That is an art that you’ve perfected, my friend!

    • Thank you! I don’t think it’s perfected yet – somehow I feel I’m always a few good post ideas short of that goal. πŸ™‚ But there’s something about having sustained the pace of daily posts for this long that is, in itself, a sort of inertia/momentum that helps keep me going.

  8. You’re doing a fantastic job Daniel. Keep up the good work.

  9. Thanks for the work you do to keep this going. I may not always comment, but this is often the place I find out about new happenings in the Southern Gospel world.Keep it up.

  10. Thank you for all the hard work, even after years I’ve been reading your blog I still come here first thing in the morning. You do such a great job and I thank you for keeping things positive.

    • Thank you so much! I’m still an early bird! I actually could usually post 60-90 minutes earlier than I usually do, but it seems that (for this site and its audience) 7:30 Eastern seems to be a pretty good time for everyone.

  11. Grateful for your work. Keep it going.

  12. Congrats on 7 years!! I come here to find out all the SG news. You do an amazing job! Thank you for all you do. πŸ™‚

  13. Wow! Seven years ago I was in my 10th grade, that’s a long time ago. What dedication, what zeal, what stamina, what passion, what commitment, I salute you.

    • Thank you! Even if you just made me feel old!

But I guess I’m feeling old routinely now. Not too long ago, I looked around in my church’s small group and realized that there were enough children and teens present that fully half of the people in the room would not remember 9/11 firsthand!

  14. That is great!! Keep it going.

    • Thanks! That’s certainly the plan! πŸ™‚

      • Daniel ,

If you had been writing or matter of fact living back in the 80s and early 90s when I was playing full time in that era, how do think blogging would have worked back then or was blogging in Webster’s dictionary then? Golly I’m old. I was thinking you might have been doing a monthly SG newspaper or something. I can say this much and that is whatever you might have been writing it would have been GREAT!!

      • I was living by the late ’80s! I was too young to know how to write, then, though. πŸ™‚

I have no idea what form my activities would have taken! I guess I would have mailed a resume to the Singing News offices in Boone. πŸ™‚

  15. Congratulations Daniel! You should be very proud of your work here. And the thanks are from us to you for allowing us to read your comments/news everyday. I feel blessed.

  16. Happy 7th Birthday, Southern Gospel Blog! You have some years on us! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, but … ??? πŸ™‚

  17. Daniel, I have enjoyed your blog so much. Thanks for all you do.

  18. “Since two-thousand and ten, SouthernGospelBlog has been
The site to which we go, to get all of our info.
The news is right on time – all the content is sublime.
We’ve learned along the way our friend Daniel likes to say,
“Be positive and nice” – so we’ll try to be concise:
This blog is great. The End.”

Great job, Daniel! We appreciate your commitment in serving the Lord through the gifts and talents He has given you.

May God continue to bless you and all your endeavors!

    • Thank you! And thank you for your columns as well! πŸ™‚

  19. Congratulations on a job well done. You are certainly informative, but what I appreciate most is that you are consistent. I know that you will have a post each day and you don’t disappoint. Keep up the good work, Daniel.

  20. I want to say with all the others…Congratulations and thank you for “sharing” your hobby with all of us. I so much appreciated all the NQC information also, but I have a few to catch up on as my PC quit for a few days. πŸ™
    God Bless You, Daniel.
