Saturday News Roundup #203

Worth Knowing

  • Please keep noted Southern Gospel concert promoter Robert York in your prayers this week; his wife of fifty-one years, Carol York, passed away on Monday after an extended illness.
  • Worth Reading: Brian Crout offers the story behind the Kingdom Heirs’ “I’ll Know I’m Home.”
  • Jeff Whisnant’s father, Paw Paw Joe Whisnant, sustained serious injuries in a car accident on Saturday.
  • When I write about non-Southern Gospel topics, I generally post them somewhere besides this site, to keep this site’s content as focused as possible. But from time to time I’ll mention something here. I’ve been pondering why Christian nations throughout history rise and fall, and posted some thoughts on the topic here.

17 Letters to the Editor

Southern Gospel Journal welcomes letters to the editor. We will post the most thoughtful and insightful submissions. Ground rules: Don't attack or belittle groups or fellow posters, or advance heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity. Do keep comments positive, constructive, and on topic.
  1. Thanks, Daniel! Glad you enjoyed the interview.

    • You’re welcome! I hope it’s the first of many!

  2. Good morning Daniel. That is a very interesting thought and article on what constitutes a Christian nation. As far as America ever being a nation founded on Biblical principles…that could really open up a can of worms that I am sure you would not want here.
I do enjoy reading your blog and I will do just that. 🙂

    • Mary, yes, that might be a little out of place here. But I did discuss the twin questions of “Is America a Christian Nation?” and “Was America Ever a Christian Nation?” in another post on my site:

The comments section of that post would be a perfectly fine place to discuss the question.

  3. There was a comment submitted about Jeff Whisnant’s father’s car accident injuries. The spam filter inaccurately tagged it as spam, and I inadvertently cleaned out the spam filter. My apologies to whoever posted it! I went ahead and added it to the main post myself.

  4. Ok….the most important question of 2013 is……HOW DO I GET THE DANIEL MOUNT BOBBLEHEAD????????? S

    • I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s one of a kind . . . and not for sale!

  5. I saw a picture, it exists and I must have it!!!! Maybe a contest? Lolol

  6. Congrats to the Browders for the #1 song for 2013 (Singing News Top 40): “Praise You in This Valley”

This was only the SEVENTH radio single from the album & the third #1 song. 🙂

Also, Rodney Griffin had 4 songs in the Top 20, 3 in the top 10. Dianne Wilkinson had 3 in the top 20.

  7. You have a price Daniel……we jut have to find it! Somewhere there is a album you are dying to have, or an experience you would trade! Lolol. Just kidding. ……

    • It was a gift, and it’s not polite to give a gift away (especially immediately after receiving it!) Because of that, I don’t think every single album on my wish list would be enough to pry it out of my hands!

Do I have a price? I guess so, but it would be pretty hard to find it. I guess a new or nearly new car that gets better than 30mpg would be pretty hard to turn down . . . in trade for a bobblehead. (And to any onlookers to whom that was not clear: Yes, this was intentionally absurd for humor!) 🙂

  8. Hahahaaa.

  9. An update: Sadly, Jeff Whisnant’s father passed away:
