2013 SouthernGospelBlog.com Awards: Nominations for Best On-Stage Video

Quite a few Southern Gospel magazines and websites offer “best of” contests and awards shows. But they often cover much the same ground: Favorite artist, song, album, musician, singer at each vocal part, and the like. Let’s do something different. Let’s honor the best Southern Gospel videos—concept videos, behind-the-scenes videos (including studio videos), and live concert videos. For each category, we’ll do a nominations post and a follow-up post with a poll featuring the top nominees.

We’ve already selected the best concept video and the best behind-the-scenes video. It’s time for the third and final category:

What were the best Southern Gospel live concert single-song videos posted online last year? Nominate up to two videos in the comments below.

55 Letters to the Editor

Southern Gospel Journal welcomes letters to the editor. We will post the most thoughtful and insightful submissions. Ground rules: Don't attack or belittle groups or fellow posters, or advance heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity. Do keep comments positive, constructive, and on topic.
  1. I wanted to nominate “Pure and Simple”, but I think it was 2012. So I am posting simply to keep up with this thread. 🙂

  2. I think EHSS “Christmas Live” is fantastic! I really don’t follow other groups much…so Idk any others.

    • I’m looking for single-song nominations posted to YouTube or somewhere similar, not full-concert DVDs. It is okay, however, if the song comes from a DVD, so long as there is reasonable grounds for expectation that it was posted by the artist or posted with the artist’s consent.

      • Daniel did you change the OP to say “single song” or am I totally losing it? 🙂 I really need to pay more attention when I read something.

      • I did change it, because the first two comments thought I was talking about DVDs.

  3. Glorious Freedom (Gaither Vocal Band) – from ‘Pure and Simple’ posted to the GaitherVevo youtube channel.

    • Excellent choice! But, is it from 2013 or 2012? There are many I would like to nominate but I think they are from 2012.

    • My second nomination…

He Loves Me – Greater Vision & Mark Trammell Quartet (Chris Allman, Gerald Wolfe, Mark Trammell, Pat Barker) – From a Saturday News Roundup.

      • SECONDED!

      • I would “SECOND” this video as well.

      • I second this one too!

    • I second Glorious Freedom!

  4. I loved the Blackwood Brothers video from the Memphis Quartet Convention you posted featuring Michael Helwig. I have listened to this version of “It is Well With My Soul” over and over.

  5. The video you included in one of your blog posts of the Old Paths doing “Long Live the King” got some deserved buzz, so I’ll nominate that one.

    • Sounds good! And by the way, that sort of nomination is perfectly fine; if someone wants to mention a song / group and that it was featured in a Saturday/Friday news roundup, it shouldn’t be too hard for me to find that.

    • Seconded!

  6. I nominate the video taken at the Memphis Quartet Show with The Booth Brothers and Gene McDonald singing “The Sweetest Song I Know.” Great energy from them and the audience.

  7. I’d like to nominate this video of the Inspirations singing “He Broke the Chains”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7clxQv-uRZ8 It was the first time in quite a few years that they had performed that song…and it was done without rehearsal, just on the spur of the moment!

    • That was also an introduction for many people to the bass singing of Jon Epley.

      • Very true…he’s such a talented fellow! And he hit some great notes on that one as well. A low G, I think…

      • No…a low C lol

    • Second!

  8. I’d like to nominate –

“Something’s Happening” Hoppers with TaRanda Greene – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhTXW0Q8s5U

“All Is Well” Whisnants with Melissa Brady – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw7u9F1-n7k

    • I SECOND both Something’s Happening and All is Well!

  9. I would like to nominate “Thanks To Calvary” from the Cathedrals Family Reunion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cnp8azmLVQ) and “He Loves Me” with MTQ and GV (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3z-vIVdoeE) – great songs!

    • Good one!

    • I’m working on the poll. Even though Brian didn’t use the formal term “second” here, I’m going to go with counting this vote of support as a second for the purposes of assembling the poll.

  10. I think the all quartet video from nqc that ben wolfe put up is hilarious. that has to be in this!!

    • sorry Daniel, I meant the all bass quartet. woops

      • It took me a few seconds, but yes, I figured out what you meant!

    • Second.

  11. Josh’s “seconds” are a very good idea. There have been enough nominees that it might not be feasible to feature them all. So, everyone, “second” one or two if you like. (Just don’t second your own nominations!)

  12. I hope this one is allowed from NQC week by the Perrys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wozmtqhEfA4

    • Second!

  13. Hands down…. Jesus is Coming Soon – Willie Wynn, Reggie Smith, Woody Wright and Larry Strickland – Good News Music Radio “Rise Up Rejoice” project – live from the Palace Theatre in Louisville, KY!!!!!!!!!!

Come on, anybody…. show me a better live clip… I double dog dare you!

  14. Devin McGlamery’s live solo performance of “While I Still Can” with his two children on stage! http://youtu.be/wi2CWLFEInE

Ernie Haase & Signature Sound – Live Performance “Every Light That Shines At Christmas”.

  15. Ernie Haase & Signature Sound – Christmas Tour – at Shadow Mountain – “Light A Candle”

  16. Ok, if Woody can nominate himself then I can second myself

    • I suppose so! 🙂

It might not just be the Windows Phone; it might be all phones. The only way that a smiley face displays as a smiley face here is if you type it the old-fashioned way, with a colon and right parenthese: : + ) in immediate proximity = 🙂

  17. There were lots of smiley faces after that comment that got cut off.

  18. I hate the windows phone

  19. Ernie Haase & Signature Sound – Christmas Tour – at Shadow Mountain – “Light A Candle”

Devin McGlamery – solo concert – “From My Rags to His Riches” –

  20. Pat…. I nominated Willie…. it just so happens that I got to be a part of the “Best On Stage” video with him! ;0)

  21. Woody, i dont know you well, but i know you well enough to know that Willie was your focus. I like yankin Daniels chain on occasion. : ) Had the honor of singing with Willie at a GOGR event several years back and I will never forget it. Keep up the good work my friend!!! P.S. Daniel, I second everything with me and Woody in it! : )

  22. Was the video with Greater Vision singing “He Saw It All” a 2013 or 2014 video? I can’t remember.

    • I believe it was filmed at a New Year’s Eve concert. So I’m inclined to count it as eligible even if it wasn’t posted the next morning, based on the day it was filmed. Nominate it if you like (and if you haven’t already nominated two others.)

      • Okay, then I will!

  23. ‘ While i still can’ b Devin McGlamery and ‘Thank God for children’s by Ernie Haase and Signature Sound from their Christmas live DVD.

  24. I vote for Glorious Freedom. 🙂

  25. I want to nominate THREE BRIDGES “House of Good News” as seen on Gospel Music Showcase. Can you please help me link it to your site? It is on 3B’s website, Media/Videos. Thanks!!

  26. Thanks to everyone for the nominations and seconds! Nominating and seconding is now closed.
