The Crist Family to Retire

Yesterday afternoon, the Crist Family announced that they will be retiring by the end of the year. They will complete their annual February West Coast Tour, and perform limited farewell concerts for the remainder of the year.

The announcement stated: “With John and Tami Starkel’s recent decision to pursue some new paths at this time in their lives, along with the Crist girls getting married and looking to start families of their own, it is evident that this chapter in The Crist Family is coming to a close.”

Manager and lead singer Rich Crist commented: “One thing is certain—life will have changes. It was a major time of change ten years ago when God called us in to full-time ministry. Now, with this change, we are looking forward to see where He takes us next. It has been a wonderful journey and we will forever be grateful for the friendships we have made along the way.”

The group added: “We thank God, Crossroads, The Harper Agency, our peers and all of the Southern Gospel Music fans. Thank you for the love and support you have shown to us along the way. We will always love you!”

  1. I’ve felt like this was coming for a year or two now. Sad to see them go, but no one can argue their decision. Thanks for the wonderful music, Crist family.

  2. Wishing them well. I love that family and will miss hearing them sing.

  3. Wow I hate to hear this. This family is some of my favorite people in the world. I loved their fresh approach to the standards and the new songs they introduced to us. Also, in my opinion, the recorded the finest Christmas album in any genre. Love you guys. Praying for this precious family.

  4. I know the gospel music family which includes the industry will miss you guys dearly. You have been a great witness, blessing, and encouragement to a countless number of souls. May God bless you in your future endeavors. I will personally miss your great harmony and testimony.

  5. I became familiar with the Crist Family at NQC, and saw them several times there in 18-23 minute intervals. I remember at one of the NQC Events, their Christmas album was announced as one of the best Christmas records ever recorded. I can’t disagree with that. I was blessed to be able to see the Crist Family in a ‘full” concert at Tuscarora Inn in Pennsylvania in December. It was an amazing night of music and ministry, and I was so blessed to be a part of that evening. I hope they return to the NJ/PA/NY area on their “farewell” tour. I pray blessings of peace, prosperity, and protection over the family.

  6. Pat Barker, I echo your sentiments about the Christmas album. It is fantastic. Wish they would release the orchestrations and arrangements!

  7. No doubt the Crist Family recorded one of the best Christmas albums in our genre’s history… and that’s a big deal.
I remember the first song I ever heard them sing… “Jesus Savior, Pilot Me.” It’s still my favorite Crist Family song.

I pray God’s best for them in their new endeavors.

    • That was one of the songs they included the first time I heard them live. I’d rank that and “My Heart Knows” (which, I seem to recall, was their highest-charting single) as the two best things they did.

  8. Hated to see this press release. I knew this had been talked about but didn’t think it would happen. Enjoyed hearing and promoting the Crist Family. Maybe a possibility of Rich and Tami will be back with their spouse as a quartet……Would certainly be nice to have them continue singing.

  9. The Crist Family is a picture of class and what a story of Faith. Thank you for the music!!
