Videos of Todd Suttles with the Gaither Vocal Band

The Gaither Vocal Band has not announced a final decision on their new fifth member yet, but it seems the decision is nearing. One finalist, David Staton, posted on Facebook earlier this week that he had not been selected, commenting: “Bill contacted me today and told me that he has decided to go in a different direction.”

Todd Suttles has been filling in at a number of recent Homecoming concerts. Here’s a video of the ensemble—Bill Gaither and David Phelps on the solos, with Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb, and Todd Suttles—singing “Child, You’re Forgiven”

Suttles doesn’t have a solo, but it’s nice to see the enthusiasm and energy he shows during David Phelps’ solo.

Here’s a shorter clip, from the same user, of “Rasslin’ Jacob”:

UPDATEVia reader Jamie, here are two more videos including Todd—a comedy moment, and Heaven’s Joy Awaits.

  1. Well, extrapolating from what I can hear in these videos, nobody needs to worry about a drop in quality from this group!

  2. Here is a video from Feb 8th,(Saturday) and they sound very good! Alpha and Omega. 🙂

  3. I heard them last weekend. Overall I’d give the concert a B+ compared to other GVB concerts I’ve attended. They are all individually talented of course but they need a few months to “gell”. Nothing that my unprofessional ear could identify but it just wasn’t as “smooth” as I am accustomed to hearing from a live GVB performance. Adam is closer to it than Suttles, obviously because he has been there longer. His best song was Please Forgive Me for obvious reasons. I can see him being “the man” with a little “Gaitherization”. I liked his voice a lot better than I was expecting to. I think Suttles needs some more time to get familiar with the music. Lots of little things, words, timing, etc, but nothing that really stood out as an issue. His voice is good, but not particularly amazing.

They are missing Lowry’s humor…. Kevin did his thing and Bill had Adam talk a bit, and David had a small humorous moment. Bill might be trying to feel things out for now.

Of course, in my humble opinion, GVBs B+ is many groups A++…I have no doubt when they start singing songs picked for their voices and gell that once again we will all wonder “how does he keep putting together such good groups”

    • Very promising — as anticipated. And Wes is no longer the most vertically challenged. 🙂 Love the additional spirit provided by Mr Suttles.

  4. I saw a pic on twitter of the three guys (Adam, David, Wes) and wondered if they recording a new cd or what.Does anyone have an idea? Can they record without having recruited a fifth member?

  5. Bill Gaither has announced that Todd Suttles will be the fifth member of the Gaither Vocal Band.
