Sony’s Thoughts: The Importance of Singing

“O sing unto the LORD a new song; sing unto the LORD, all the earth. Sing unto the LORD, bless His name; shew forth His salvation from day to day.” (Psalms 96:1-2)

As I write this, I realize that so much of what I write these days is on the same or at least a very similar topic. I’ve thought about not writing until God lays something else on my heart but, for now, you all are just going with me on a journey through what God is doing in my life. For months, He has been teaching me how to honor Him through my trials and, so far, that is still what He’s speaking to me.

This morning, I was thinking about singing and how it lifts my spirits. It’s amazing to me how, when I’m down, all I have to do is turn on some music with positive lyrics and things don’t seem so hard.

I love to sing so singing is not a sacrifice to me except during extreme trials. At the same time, those are the times when we need to praise God. If we don’t it is so much easier for satan to take control of our attitude.

David said, “I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34:1) In another place, we are told to “Rejoice always.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16) Singing and praising are not options. I feel like if we obey these simple commandments, we will have so much more peace and joy.

  1. Soooo true! Thanks for sharing. I’ve just finished reading Psalms and found MANY verses telling of the importance of singing and music. They are all highlighted now. 😉

  2. Amen, Sony!
