George Amon Webster Trio disbands

John Myers, a brother of Todd Myers (group member), is reporting on the Cathedrals Tribute message board that the George Amon Webster Trio has disbanded. [EDIT, 11/8/10: The link is broken and has been removed.] Although I never actually heard their music (beyond, perhaps, clips on their website), I’m sorry to see them go. Webster stayed longer with the Cathedrals (1969-79) than just about anyone else (Payne, Younce, and Bennett being the only exceptions, with Trammell tied), and had a very pleasant voice. However, he has had health problems including a stroke in recent years.

5 Letters to the Editor

Southern Gospel Journal welcomes letters to the editor. We will post the most thoughtful and insightful submissions. Ground rules: Don't attack or belittle groups or fellow posters, or advance heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity. Do keep comments positive, constructive, and on topic.
  1. I did not know they disbanded. I was really hoping to see them again. I can’t get them out of my head. their message for Christ was powerful!

  2. George wrote one of my favorite gospel songs, “He Loves Me”.
When Greater Vision put out their quartets cd, Eric Bennett sang with them and it was filmed at the Southern Gsopel Convention for a video. What very heart touching words it has and it just downright makes me feel good to sing or just speak the words. I had the pleasure of seeing George a few times and he had a wonderful message with his singing, that I so enjoyed. May God Bless us all.

  3. I heard this trio in Council Bluffs before they disbanded – I want to know where I can get more of their old cd’s – I have worn my copy out – they were MOST awesome group I had heard in some time…

  4. Would like to know how I could get his CD Tougher Than Nails
