Sony’s Thoughts: How Are We Impacting Those Around Us?

In the movie It’s a Wonderful Life, George Bailey gets the unique opportunity to see what the world would look like if he’d never been born. Here, he had been giving in to self-pity and despair, thinking the world would be better off without him when, in reality, the world and those around him were blessed because of his existence.

I sometimes struggle with some of the same feelings Mr. Bailey did. Not to that degree but there are times when I wonder if I am impacting anyone’s life positively. Everyone on earth is making an impact of some sort. The question is: are we influencing those around us for good or for bad? Are we encouraging or discouraging? Does our attitude and our outlook turn others to God or away from God?

When I die, I pray there will be testimonies of those who were drawn closer to God because of me. Honestly, I hope there is a void in people’s lives because of my absence but I hope it inspires them to go and be that encouragement and that light for someone else. The world needs role models and, although it’s easy to tell people not to look at us, we are Jesus’ representatives on the earth, and we are called to be like Him. I don’t claim to have accomplished that yet but, as long as I have breath, I can draw near to God and trust Him to complete the work that He’s begun in me so that I can be a positive influence in others’ lives.

Since this will probably be my last post before Christmas, let me also take this time to wish all of you a very blessed Christmas season. May you experience the joy and the peace that Christ desires for you and, if you aren’t experiencing those things, take the time to search your heart for the reason and be willing to change anything God reveals. Because He lives, we can face tomorrow!
