Jerry Kelso to leave Dove Brothers

According to a post on, the Dove Brothers announced in concert earlier this weekend that it’s pianist Jerry Kelso’s final weekend with the group. (EDIT: 8/5/2011: Broken link removed) McCray Dove also said that his replacement had been selected and would start after Christmas break. Apparently the pianist is a well-known pianist who had been with several other groups. I’ll post more thoughts when the replacement is announced.

  1. I’m wondering if Andrew Ishee will be coming back on the road to play for the Dove Brothers. He certainly has both the energy and ability that Kelso had.

  2. Ah the Southern Gospel world, they come and they go…. on and on it goes. LOL

  3. Jerry will be missed! Let’s cross our fingers that Andrew will make another SG appearance.

  4. I love Jerry Kelso. Through the years he and I have become good friends, and I always have enjoyed our conversations together at NQC, Grand Ole Gospel, and SGMA Days. Lots of luck Jerry! And to the Doves, praying for your new replacement and your continued success in 2010 and beyond.

  5. Personally, I would be surprised if Andrew would be the one considering where he lives. South Mississippi is a long way from Bladenboro NC and it would surprise me if he would move away from all the family….but, we shall see soon I guess! 🙂

  6. At first, I too thought Ishee but I kinda doubt it. I really have no idea who it could be. (Roy Webb…who knows!?)

The Dove Brothers have always been my favorite group and I know whoever they’ve chosen will fit well.

Best wishes to Jerry Kelso. I saw him play one time after Anything But Ordinary came out…his one hand was so swollen but you couldn’t tell by the way he was playing. Simply an amazing talent.

  7. If McCray hasn’t said the name yet, I would think are possibly with another group currently.

  8. How about Channing Eleton. He would be a good fit with the Doves IMO… And it is very possible that the player is with another group… We will find out sooner or later!

    • Don’t think it’s Channing or Andrew.

  9. Channing crosses my mind too.

  10. I just sent out a press release announcing the new pianist – SoGospelNews has the article up already: [EDIT, 2/21/13: Broken Link Removed.]
