Sony’s Thoughts: Happy New Year!

The year 2009 has officially ended, and 2010 has begun. I don’t know about you but I always look forward to seeing what each new year brings. No matter what the previous year held, a new year seems to symbolize a new beginning. It brings to memory the fact that “His mercies are new every morning.” This is true all the time but it seems to have special meaning as a new year breaks through.

As I ponder the past year, I see areas I’ve grown in and areas I’ve failed. I desire to succeed in those areas this year as I hope I have learned a few things along the way.

The one thing I know as I enter another year: God is still in control. I may not know the future but He does. Nothing is going to take Him by surprise so, as I take His hand and begin to walk this next trek with Him, I can rest assured that if I keep my eyes on Him and allow Him to hold my hand and guide me where He desires, I will be in the safest place possible, protected from every storm that comes and, because of that, I can face tomorrow full of expectation. Let’s continue on together as we journey to that land. Let’s encourage each other to keep pressing on because Home may be nearer than we could dare to dream.

  1. Happy New Year, Sony! 🙂

…for I know Who holds tomorrow, and I know Who holds my hand…

Maybe that should be our theme song this year? Or, come to think of it, every year!

    • I was listening to that song earlier today by The Cathedrals and I agree it’s a great theme song. When life begins to look uncertain, I remind myself of that very thing. Thank you for that reminder too.

  2. “Hold me fast, let me stand, in the hollow of Thy hand…” That’s what song this reminds me of. It’s such a blessing to know that God is keeping us safe regardless of what is going on in our lives and the world around us.

I love the beginning of a new year. To me, I feel like it is akin to opening to the first fresh, clean page of a new notebook. It is just waiting to be filled with all things wonderful.

Thanks for the sweet encouragement today, Sony!

    • Amen! I’m so glad we can walk this road together and remind each other of those simple truths. You’re right. A new year is a fresh, clean page. “Wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).

  3. Sony,

Thanks for your encouragement every week ! You have a way with words, that makes so much sense. It is a gift. God is indeed in control and The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Hallelujah for New Beginnings !

    • Thank you for the return encouragement, Jeff. I thank God often for the ability to write and pray He continues to use it to build up and edify His people as well as to challenge those who need a closer walk with Him. I pray you have a very blessed 2010!
