Announcing SouthernGospelBlog.mobi

Yesterday, I asked if any of you accessed this site on a smartphone.

Enough of you do that I decided to go ahead with a project I’ve had in mind for a while. This morning, I launched www.southerngospelblog.mobi. It’s a version of the site optimized for iPhone and other smartphones.

As far as I know, this is the first Southern Gospel site to launch a mobile version (though I notice in the comments below that SoGospelNews has one coming soon).

Since the current desktop theme isn’t all that widget-friendly, this holds me back from adding widgets to the mobile theme (e.g., the big two, search and recent comments). This will come with the next theme (since that’s on my must-have list for the next theme).

For those of you accessing this on a mobile phoneβ€”how does it look now?

  1. Good job Daniel! I know SoGospelNews has been working on one for a few weeks as well. It will make my life easier if I’m on my phone for sure! LOL!

    • You have so much more content that your job will be a little harder! It was a 24-hour project for me. πŸ™‚

  2. Ah-ha, so it did change this morning. Again thanks Daniel! Keep up the great work.

  3. Looks good on the iPhone!!

  4. very cool man! i totally appreciate the hard work!

  5. Looks great man thanks! Also I decided to change my name from Johnny just FYI

  6. Looks great on blackberry tour. Thanks!

  7. Looks just fine on my Blackberry! Thanks, Daniel!

  8. Did you change the RSS feed of the main site when you set up the mobi site? I get an error now when using Sharpreader.

  9. So yesterday I was checking out a Droid in the Verizon store and accessed the mobile version of this site. I didn’t have the patience to comment then, but it looked and worked great! It automatically redirected me to the mobile version, which was nice.

    • Yes, the redirect to the mobile is nice. πŸ™‚

By the way, if you go with a droid at some point, I checked out the Motorola Droid and HTC’s Droid Eris, and I thought the HTC phone was better by a long shot. The nice thing about the Motorola is that it has a slide-out keyboard, but it’s that much thicker, too.

      • You know, I liked the HTC better yesterday in the little time I played with it. I thought the Motorola looked like it ought to slide or something, but I couldn’t make it move. I just have to figure out how to afford the plan and if I can commit to the contract!

      • Yeah, the Motorola has a little keyboard that slides out.

I’m not the one to say whether you can afford a cell phone, of course, but if you can, I’m really happy with the HTC.
