Joining Crossroads

I have never measured my value as a Southern Gospel journalist by the distance I maintain from the genre.

Some hold that the more distance you keep from your topic, the more accurately you can write about it. But I incline toward the opposite view: The more contacts and friends I make, the more accurate I am. Over the last few years, I’ve been making contacts and friends at every opportunity. Earlier this month, one of these friends offered me a job.

I have accepted a part-time position helping Crossroads develop artist community sites. This is the same label I helped two years ago at NQC 2008 with TalleyTree-o, and last year with five sites. (Side note to local friends: This is in addition to my day job, and I will be staying in Ohio for the time being.)

I have received the green light to continue this site. There should be so few changes that readers who missed this post probably won’t notice anything different.

I am looking forward to helping artists develop online communities. And I am equally looking forward to keeping this site going, hopefully even stronger and more insightful than before.

Southern Gospel Journal welcomes letters to the editor. We will post the most thoughtful and insightful submissions. Ground rules: Don't attack or belittle groups or fellow posters, or advance heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity. Do keep comments positive, constructive, and on topic.
  1. Hey that is great news Daniel. You deserve to be in the main mix. LOL! You will do Crossroads a great job! I will be praying for you as you take on this new job. God bless you. Keep up the good work!

    • Thanksโ€”I appreciate the prayers!

And one of the best parts is that I can keep doing this. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Congratulations.

  3. That’s fantastic, DM!! Congratulations!

  4. Congratulations!

  5. Congratulations Daniel on your new position

  6. Thaqt’s great Daniel!

    • Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

Iโ€™m having an interesting time of it this morning, since WordPress doesnโ€™t permit identical comments!

  7. hey Daniel, that is just too cool. Good for you! Congratulations.

  8. Congratulations Daniel! What an exciting opportunity and you are just the guy for the job. The Crossroads’ artists will reap the benefits of having you on their team. I read your posts daily but don’t think I’ve ever responded to one. However, as an independent artist, Crossroads is someone I watch closely. They continue to do the right things over there and I like to glean in their fields as much as possible. They have taught me much just by their example. Likewise, I have learned much from reading your site and the comments here. I’m glad you are not going anywhere and wish you the very best!

    • Thanks! I’ve been watching Crossroads for a while myself, and even before any of this was first discussed I became of the impression that their concepts would not only help SG survive the recession, but move forward and stay strong in the future. I’m thrilled to be a part of it!

  9. Awesome news, Daniel! Congratulations!!! Crossroads is tops in my book and they couldn’t have found a better fit to help the artists out.

    Again, congratulations!

    • Thanks!

And maybe I’ll have a good excuse to come your way one of these days . . . . ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Just let me know if you make it down to the Asheville area and lunch will be on me ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Awesome! I’ll be in touch.

  10. WTG, Daniel! Congrats.

    • Thank you very much! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Although I tend to lean toward the point of view that it’s better as a writer not to get too close to your subject matter in a personal way(it CAN affect one’s judgment), I know how much you love this genre…and I happen to believe you will be a tremendous posiive asset to any company or artist that chooses to have you as a part of their team…so with that in mind, a hearty “congatulations” on becoming a part of Crossroads!

I’m certain you will do a fine job for them!

    • Well, nobody is completely unbiased, and I’ve never claimed to be . . . ๐Ÿ™‚

      But thanks!

  12. Congratulations Daniel! That’s exciting! I know you’ll do great!

BTW, so… no other news???? ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Thanks . . . and no. ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Congrats Daniel I am proud of you! You deserve this and I am sure you will keep on moving up! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks! There’s not much up from here, this is about as good as it gets . . . ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Congrats, Daniel! I suppose my guess about Crossroads last night wasn’t that far off after all! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Yeah, you were the only one who came close!

  15. All the best to you in this endeaver and thanks for staying with
us as sj journalist…You have my prayers…Joe Sahadi

    • You’re welcome, and I appreciate it!

  16. Congrats Daniel,
Who knows, this may actually bring you to North Carolina one day.

    • Yes, this is about the only thing that could induce me to move south! I love Ohio winters, but . . . yes, maybe someday. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Congrats! I’m happy for you … since you are able to keep this site going! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • ๐Ÿ™‚

Being able to keep this going was high on my priorities list when ensuring everything would work out. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • You mean it wasn’t on the top? Well … I guess … maybe you do have other stuff in your life besides keeping us all up-to-date on the best sort of music this either side of Heaven.

      • Well, it was the top corollary, or side issue. I mean, there were things like making sure my skills fit what they needed, and that telecommuting would workโ€”things integral to the job itselfโ€”but for things not integral to the job itself, this was the first thing I asked about. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Daniel, Good For You ! People rarely succeed at anything unless they enjoy doing it. Your positive attitude and kind comments have played an important role I’m sure in helping Crossroads make the decision to have you on their team. ( Life is more accurately measured by the lives you touch than by the things you acquire ). Best Wishes ! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks!

A couple people (not on this site) asked me if working 40 hours per week plus this would totally exhaust me. My answer was that this is the same type of thing I was already doing for fun anyhow . . . ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Wow! Now days so many people are looking for a job. For you to get this opportunity is a ‘God thing’ and all I can say is ‘way to go, God and way to go Daniel’. Congrats!!!!

    • I know! So many industries are shrinking or sufferingโ€”and truth be told, things aren’t economically easy in Southern Gospel eitherโ€”so until this came up as a possibility, the thought that I would ever work in the industry was such a long shot that I didn’t even really consider the possibility!

  20. Exciting news, Daniel! Hope everything goes well. I’m definitely praying for ya, man!

  21. Congratulations Daniel, I am so very happy for you! You will just knock their socks off over there!!!!! You are in my prayers. Remember to take care of yourself too! There is only so much of you we can spread around! Enjoy this new stage in your life.

    • Thanks! I’ll try to find a few minutes here and there to slow down!

  22. Daniel, I am so happy for you! Congratulations! I’m so thankful that God has opened this door for you! You are going to do amazing work with Crossroads. God has gifted you for something like this. I pray the transition into your new job goes smoothly. I just know this is only the beginning of great things for you!

    • I’m thrilled He’s opened this door too!

  23. Congratulations! That’s great!

    • Thanks, and thanks for stopping by!

  24. Just saw this post this morning, Daniel, and I also want to offer my congratulations on this new and exciting position. And don’t worry about getting too close to your subject. It’s been my experience that the people involved in this industry who were fans first care the most. Enjoy every minute of it!
