Question of the Week: Roy Webb

I recently had the chance to catch up with Gold City Pianist Roy Webb.

Daniel: So how are things going with the new Gold City lineup? What projects do you have in the works?

Roy: Things are going GREAT with the new GC lineup-thanks for asking! Audiences everywhere are really enjoying themselves, and we are humbled by getting the opportunity to sing to so many wonderful people every week!

We are grateful that our crowds have been excited to see this new lineup and most of our concerts have had capacity or near-capacity crowds. God is really blessing us and we feel honored to be doing this for a living!

As far as new recordings go….we are working on several!

They are –
A Tribute To Doug Riley. This album contains some of the most popular songs that were written by Doug Riley and recorded by Gold City. Doug was such a great songwriter, and by recording this CD, we are keeping his talent and his memory alive. The guys sound great on this cd.

The CD I’m most excited about is our major release through New Haven Records. We are actually going into the studio on 4/27 &4/28 to cut tracks for this cd. It is being produced by Michael English and we are so fortunate to have his expertise on this recording. We have listened to HUNDREDS of songs and finally have a very short list of songs that we feel will make a difference in peoples lives. Right now, we feel people need hope more than anything. We believe that this new recording will change lives!!!! And that is the reason we do this!

We also have 2 other cds coming out very shorty…1 is an “Old Favorites” CD. Songs that we all enjoy listening to, just done in that Gold City style.

The other, is something I feel will be a BEST SELLER for us….(drum roll please….) Tim Riley is going to be doing a solo recording!!!!! When Danny and I approached Tim with this idea he said “Boys, I’ll do it, but I don’t think anyone will buy one!” I think he will be proven wrong. Very wrong, actually!

So, there you have it! That is what we are working on!

I do want to say a huge “Thank You” on behalf of Josh, Bruce, Danny, Tim and myself. The fans have been gracious and have supported us and nominated us for several things in the Singing News fan awards this year. We are humbled. We will continually strive to be the best we can be and promise to put out quality recordings and put all the energy we have into every live concert event. This music changes lives! We CANNOT WAIT to see you all at one of our concerts! God Bless!

  1. I always enjoy his column in SN (well, online). Good “quick questions.”

  2. Did he happen to say when that Doug Riley Tribute CD would be released? I am seeing the guys tomorrow night and I was really really hoping they would have it by then….

    • No, he didn’t say that.

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

  3. I can’t wait to hear my thoughts to… haha 🙂 I should have a review up Friday… Hopefully… 🙂

  4. I’m planning on seeing Gold City on Saturday. I saw this lineup back in March and I was blown away!

  5. I wonder if they will be releasing a cd version of the concert video they recorded? Does anyone know when that video is coming out?

    • The release of that video got canceled due to some problems with the video…

  6. Looking forward to having Gold City at our Church in Ohio in Nov.

    • Looking forward to being there!

. . . and hoping these projects all come out by then. 🙂

  7. Hi there!
Wow, I am mentally shaking my head over the amazement that I haven’t commented on your blog yet.

I have been blogging for three years and have often come and visited over here.

I love all you information on Southern Gospel singers. I have been a huge SG fan since I was 14. But when I started teaching I started to find I didn’t have much time to research SG news as I did when I was teen. Sigh… the trials of growing up!

Well, once again thank you for this blog! I enjoy it!!

  8. Can’t wait for the new cds to come out.

  9. He didn’t mention the multiple location live CD project that was talked about a few weeks ago. I wonder if they decided against doing that one since they have so many other projects started.

  10. I think the “Tribute to Doug Riley” cd is the best table project idea to come along in the past decade.

The New Haven release will be the highlight of the year, though. I think everyone single gospel music fan will buy that album!

The Tim Riley solo album also can’t help but be a hit. He’s the man!

“Old Favorites” are also popular with traditional fans, and should be a great throwback to the GC glory days.

Here’s guessing they transformed the idea of a live cd into a recording of the classics.

So let me see if I can get this straight:

-Tribute to Doug Riley (all Doug’s songs)
-New Haven cd (record label project to define current group’s direction)
    -Old Favorites (GC classics recording)
    -Tim’s album (solo record)

    Sounds great!
