21 Letters to the Editor

Southern Gospel Journal welcomes letters to the editor. We will post the most thoughtful and insightful submissions. Ground rules: Don't attack or belittle groups or fellow posters, or advance heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity. Do keep comments positive, constructive, and on topic.
  1. I don’t get it. Are these CCM artists? They don’t sound like they need Autotune.

    • They do one of the most popular viral video series on you YouTube, AutoTuning the news. They make celebrities speaking on the news sound like they’re singing. So they’re spoofing themselves here.

Given all the talk about the deleterious effects of AutoTune on our genre, I just thought a song lauding its praises was pretty funny!

      • Oh, I gotcha. Maybe some of us could have used a caption. 😉

      • I’ll concede that point. 🙂

  2. I thought it was great!

  3. Umm…ok…well…uh…not sure I totally get it either.

    • It’s a spoof on a much-overused technique. 🙂

  4. I wonder if Auto-Tune is ever used to smooth over supposedly live performances as well as studio…?

    • Yes, it is.

(filler words to make WordPress happy)

  5. Who’s PS 22?

    (filler, filler, filler)

The girl who has the first solo has an incredible voice. Great tone.

      • Neat. That girl is very talented. I’m not so sure about the song though…

      • Me either. I couldn’t understand all the lyrics, but I’m not sure they’re worth the effort.

      • I could. Let’s just say the message isn’t exactly edifying… great talent though.

  6. I get it, and it’s hilarious.

  7. Another element in this is the 5-word speech. All the acceptance speeches at the Webbys, from what I understand, are limited to 5 words. For this reason, the winners have to think long and hard about what they’re going to say (hopefully to get a good laugh), since they can’t ramble on and on and thank everyone under the sun.

  8. I love it! I’m afraid many people would be unpleasantly amazed if they heard some of their favorite artists in most musical genres without “autotune” and / or programs like it!

  9. That’s why it’s refreshing to hear obviously “true” live performances that still sound good.

  10. That was my first time hearing PS 22. Here is some info on them. Very cool what the director is doing for those kids. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS22_chorus
