Jerry & the Singing Goffs Reunite

Jerry & the Singing Goffs were one of the leading Southern Gospel groups of the mid-1970sβ€”to the point that Bill Dykes moved from the Cathedrals to the Goffs as a step up. The Goffs are set to reunite for a concert date this October, with Jerry Goff, Bill Dykes, Gayle “Tank” Tackett, and Gene Jones.

Bill Dykes stated on his Facebook page that there would also be a tour: “Hard to believe that Jerry and The Singing Goffs are getting back together for a reunion tour! Yes it’s true.. after thirty some years The Goffs are back together again!” The remainder of the tour is as of yet unconfirmed.

  1. That’s shuper!

  2. This will be at The Lesters 44th Annual Fall Festival of Gospel Music. I have the honor of emceeing this concert. It will be Friday October 21, 2011 at Meramec Caverns in Stanton, Missouri (one hour West of St. Louis on I-44).

Also appearing will be the Dixie Echoes, Diplomats, Little Jan Buckner-Goff and The Lesters.

Talked to Brian Lester this past week. He said Jerry Goff is really looking forward to this….Jerry approached him about the idea of a “Goff Reunion”…Jerry actually mentioned this from stage last month at Meramec Caverns..the crowd went wild!! It will be a GREAT concert – not to be missed.

  3. mmmmm. my goodness!

  4. Will Gerald Wolfe be making a guest appearance? πŸ˜€

  5. maybe you will NSGF you’ve been around since moby dick was a minnie too! God love ya! Mmmmmm my my..

    • Maybe I will what? Make a guest appearance on the Goff tour? πŸ™‚

  6. yeah. πŸ™‚ why not? the more the merrier

    • Naaaah… I can’t do Jerry Goff impressions like Gerald Wolfe can. πŸ™‚

  7. who is gerald wolfe? sorry we don’t get a whole lot of SGM down here in Nahuatl

  8. sorry i meant to say in “the” Nahuatl i only know a little english

    • You really don’t know who Gerald Wolfe is? πŸ˜‰

  9. Considering that the Cathedrals were really struggling through around the late 70s, I’m sure the Goffs were a step up for Dykes. I’m sure that even George and Glen would have said that any group was a step up money-wise at the time. Of course by the end of the decade, this wasn’t the case.

Hope to see the Goffs next year!

  10. i do i was just joking around

    • Yeah I figured. πŸ˜‰ The comprehensive list of top-tier tenors you trotted out earlier made me just a tad suspicious you were pulling my chain.

Phew, that was close. I nearly launched into a little history of Gerald Wolfe and made an idiot out of myself. πŸ˜†

  11. Yeah, Thank you for remembering.

  12. It should be noted, per Singing News website in an interview with Dr. Jerry Goff, this is not a “tour.” It is one performace, a reunion at the Meramec Caverns for the Lesters’ Annual Fall Festival of Gospel Music. The Goffs were favorites there in the 1970’s and 80’s. The story indicates no further concerts are planned at ths time.

    • Public statements have gone back and forth. That’s where the story is now.

  13. Oh, wish someone would post a Goff reunion clip for us….hint, hint…anyone???

Singing News reported that the other member Gary (can’t remember his last name-sorry) passed away a few years ago. He also sang with them during the Tank Tackett years and played the drum during concert. I think he also played trumpet.

  14. Yes his last name was Herron and Garry(with two r’s) but most people knew him as Teddy Bear. He did many trumpet duets with Jerry while he was with them for about 11 years. I’m his son, which we have a striking resemblance to each other, I plan on at least going to see the show.

  15. 1976 was the last time I saw Jerry & The Singing Goffs, back In the Charlotte area. They were my favorite Southern Gospel Group of all time. I still listen to their old music from time to time. Sure would love to see them preform again. Get the tour up and I’ll be there.

  16. Praise The Lord !!!!! It’s About Time !!!!
Bill Gaither has forgot groups like Jerry & The Goffs. They were the first group I saw live and I have NEVER forgotten it.
