2013 SouthernGospelBlog.com Awards: Nominations for Best Southern Gospel Behind-The-Scenes Video

Quite a few Southern Gospel magazines and websites offer “best of” contests and awards shows. But they often cover much the same ground: Favorite artist, song, album, male singer, female singer, soprano, alto, tenor, lead, baritone, bass, and the like. Let’s do something different. Let’s honor the best Southern Gospel videos—concept videos, behind-the-scenes videos (including studio videos), and live concert videos. For each category, we’ll do a nominations post and a follow-up post with a poll featuring the top five nominees.

What were the best Southern Gospel behind-the-scenes videos posted this year? Nominate up to two; nominations with three or more videos listed will not be counted.

Behind-the-scenes videos can include videos recorded in the studio, at home, in rehearsal, and on the bus. Eligible nominations must be publicly viewable.

Disappearing Comments Reappear

Several of you noticed that many comments made over the last few days mysteriously disappeared. After a little investigating, it appears that the comment spam filter has been malfunctioning. It has been tagging legitimate comments as spam and sending spam comments to the queue awaiting final approval! I have now gone through the spam queue; all legitimate comments should have now been approved. My apologies for the delay and the confusion!

One side note: Although the past paragraph was worded in the past tense, the spam filter is still malfunctioning. But now that I know the issue, I’m checking the spam queue several times per day until the problem is definitely fixed.

2013 SouthernGospelBlog.com Awards: Voting for Best Southern Gospel Concept Video

For each category, we’ll do a nominations post and a follow-up post with a poll featuring the top nominees.

The original intent in this category was to list the top five nominees, but since there were only nine overall nominees, and I would have had to cast a decisive tie-breaking vote to choose the fifth spot, let’s just add them all to the poll.

Let’s start with concept videos. What were the best Southern Gospel concept videos posted this year? We accepted nominations on Monday; now, it’s time to vote! Here are the nominees; pick the one you think is the best.

Final results:

  1. “Sometimes I Wonder,” Ernie Haase and Signature Sound: 32.85%
  2. “Cookes and Hinsons,” Zach and Rodney: 23.34%
  3. “While I Still Can,” Devin McGlamery: 14.18%
  4. “Something To Say,” Dills: 10.95%
  5. “Excuse Me, Are You Jesus,” Nelons: 8.62%
  6. “Love is Stronger,” Jason Crabb: 6.1%
  7. “Lead Me Home.” Freemans: 2.51%
  8. “Kneel,” Akins: 1.08%
  9. “The Scarlet Cord,” Southern Raised: 0.36%

There were 557 votes cast.

Sony’s Thoughts: Through Joy and Sorrow, God is There

It’s hard to believe Christmas is only ten days away! My sister is flying in today to be with us for nearly two weeks. Amid the excitement and preparation for her arrival, I am sad for a friend whose wife is going Home very soon. A glad day for her but sad for him who will need extra strength from God to endure the lonely, quiet house without her. Then I’m also thinking of my cousin who is in the hospital today with what they think are gall stones.

It seems like each day is full of joys or sorrows–sometimes both. Rarely is there much middle ground (at least for me); yet, we know the One who controls everything, and He is the One we look to for strength to get through each day. I sometimes wonder how people get through life without God but, when I think about it, they don’t get through it very well. In the words of Ronnie Hinson, I’m so glad He found me! Life may be hard but God is so good! I pray that is your testimony as well.

Sony’s Thoughts: Flee Temptation

“There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

This world is full of temptations. Gluttony, lust, coveting, and many other temptations are present every day. Many think they have no choice but to give in to those temptations since God knows we are human but Scripture tells us that God has provided a way of escape. We only need to take it.

We cannot help the fact that we live in a fallen world but we can refuse to fall with it. During times of intense temptation, draw close to God. Walk away from whatever sin is calling to you and ask God to change your heart. Worship Him. Thank Him for being an ever present help in time of trouble. The more you choose to do right, the easier it will become. The opposite is also true though. The more you give in to temptation, the easier it will be. You do not want the ravages of sin to consume you. Allow God to fill you with His Spirit and keep you from falling. Then you can live the victorious, joyful life that God has for you, and you will be more effective to help others find this victory as well.

The 50,000th Comment Contest

This site is rapidly approaching the milestone of 50,000 approved comments. (We’re less than 350 comments away.) We had contests awarding the people who made our 10,000th comment (here) and our 30,000th comment (here). Let’s keep up the tradition, and give out a prize to the person who makes comment #50,000!

The Prize

The winner will receive three CDs:

  • Cathedrals – A Farewell Celebration
  • Dixie Melody Boys – Smooth and Easy (Dan Keeton, Bryan Walker, Andrew King, Ed O’Neal)
  • Dove Brothers – Sing the Quartet Way (John Rulapaugh, McCray Dove, Eric Dove, Burman Porter)

If the winner already has one of the CDs, he/she can choose to have one of them sent to the person who made comment #50,001.

The Rules

A comment is disqualified if it (a) is not within this site’s simple comment guidelines, (b) is inconsequential (e.g. “Lol,” “Yeah,” “I agree,” or “great post”), (c) is identical to posts you just made on other threads. If a comment is disqualified, the next qualifying comment wins.

Let’s consider today’s post an open thread to talk about anything Southern Gospel-related. To kick that off: How did you first hear about this site?

Sony’s Thoughts: An Attitude of Gratitude

I hope you all had a wonderful day of giving thanks on Thursday. I also hope you did not go back to complaining on Friday. 😉 A Christian should never cease being grateful for the many blessings our Lord pours upon us daily. Yet thanksgiving goes beyond mere words. It should well up in our hearts continually.

For myself, this has been a year of joys and trials but I choose to focus on the joys and to thank God that, even in the trials, He is changing me to be the daughter He desires me to be. I would not be who I am without the trials I’ve gone through. I’m grateful that, even in the midst of those trials, He continues to love me and to bless me and to strengthen me. I have not always walked through the fire with gratitude but I have seen Him give more grace when the burdens grow greater. Thankfully, I don’t have to bear those burdens by myself.

I give God all the glory for helping me keep an attitude of gratitude. I hope to be one who rejoices in everything–who always finds at least one thing to be grateful for. I hope you are able to do that as well. Just the knowledge that God is here fills my heart with thanksgiving. I am nobody, yet He takes the time to think about me. What a blessing that is!
